The I Statement
Do you like who you are?
[Warning: My most discombobulated newsletter to date ❤️ ]
First of all —Happy late Halloween! I scare myself looking in the mirror everyday, so that’s enough fright for me. :)
Kiddingggg, I looked in the mirror, slapped my own ass and gave myself a pep talk.
Which brings me here today to ask you one very important question:
Do you like who you are?
Back in the day, in the time of BC (before consciousness), I couldn’t answer this.
I had no concept of who I was or even who I was becoming.
I kept wondering “What does a b**** have to do to like herself?”
Well… low and behold, she’s gotta stick to who she is, no matter what other b**ches think about it.
To feel satisfaction about who you are, you have to figure out WHO you are and continue to find out every day.
It’s very simple.
But VERY hard. 🙂
After I graduated high school 14 years ago and up until now, I have seen countless classmates undergo massive changes and become their most authentic selves.
Some changed genders, some changed names, some moved countries.
And honestly, it has only confirmed my suspicion of what happens to us all as we get older: We start to do things that are authentic to us, to hell be damned what other’s think.
Figuring yourself out is a process, a journey as I am sure you know and TBH, there is no end goal where you get to say “I’ve made it to the top of Mt. [yournamehere]!”
Nope.
When I say figuring out who you are, I mean figuring out the most authentic version of you as it is right now and pivoting as you grow and change, staying true to yourself.
Explore your interests as they are NOW.
Experience lifestyles you want to experience NOW.
Wear that dress if it feels good, Queen.
Meet the goals you want to meet.
Are you a secret salsa dancer? DANCE!
Do you have no appreciation for the religion you grew up in? EXPLORE WHAT RESONATES WITH YOU!
Hate pickles? STOP WORKING FOR YOUR DAD’S PICKLE FARM!
You get the drill.
Try on the different outfits that interest and resonate with YOU.
Some interests might stay, some might go, but you would feel SO satisfied with your life if you made it about more than making money and making other people happy with you.
This pep talk feels deeply personal to me.
I have so many interests I have tried on and although many didn’t stay, I can definitely say I have enjoyed life more for them.
It has also helped me understand myself more.
Take my life as Exhibit A right now:
I picked up astrology 3 months ago.
Guess who found an interest that sticks?
I feel obsessed with astrology right now!
And shameless plug right here: At the end of this month I am going to offer some complementary readings for self discovery and clarity (email me if you’re interested at [email protected]!
Had I not gone through trying on the identities of:
-Screenwriter
-Chef
-Artist
-Vlogger
-Nurse
-Nurse practitioner
-Coach
-Improv actor
I might’ve NEVER given myself the chance to think it was normal to try different things and find out how much I love astrology.
Give yourself permission to explore.
Give yourself permission to fall in love with different parts of yourself.
Give yourself the chance to try on different hats.
Give your soul a chance to enjoy life in it’s entirety.
Through doing this, you become a more authentic you and you’ll be able to truly say, without hesitation, that you love the person you’ve become.
